TURBULENCE

1st GLASS & CERAMIC FESTIVAL

Carte blanche to Marie-Pierre Majourau

Martine Bruggeman

I make glass panels enamelled in black or white, then engraved, or worked in serigraphy of enamels. I include metals, gold, silver, copper, and glass paste.

In these panels I transcribe a celestial universe of imaginary drawings and dials. These diagrams appeal to a common imagination of science, astronomy, old maps. The prehistoric graphs, the geometrical plots are next to the representations and the astrophysical symbols.

In other panels, abstraction has taken over and enamel work has imposed itself in the glass.

Jean François DELORME

Born in 1952 in Algiers, I live in Lauzerte in the Tarn et Garonne. Graduated in Business Studies in 1977, I set up shop as a wood turner, and in 1990, I discovered ceramics and glass with passion.

Besides creating wall panels, I like to produce simple shapes of "containers", bowls, pots, cups, vases, in wood, clay or glass. I produce unique pieces, rarely combining several materials.

In earth, I practice raku, naked raku and smokings, and recently the cooking with wood in high temperature.

In wood, I like to texture surfaces by sculpting them, burning them, sanding them ...

In glass, the bowls are poured in sand.

More than color, I look for the play of texture and materials, more than transparency, reflections and play of shadows ...

“Glass has no age, but many facets. Whether it is blown, molded, thermoformed, stretched, whether it is cut, painted, polished, whether it is a vase, sculpture, stained glass, it is living matter. Glassmakers unite the past and the present in an endless art.»(Extract from the presentation of the glass museum of La Bourboule)

I live and work in Troyes. After a long evolution of my work in sculpture, I devote myself to glass, using the techniques of hot glass: fusing, thermoforming, molded glass, glass paste and torch glass or cold glass techniques. In my creations I put in relation, I associate or I oppose, two materials: a worked material, glass, and a natural material, wood.
Wood worked by time, by erosion, by a long journey, is a memory; he tells a story, "his story", a piece of wood that is unique and magnificent in my eyes. I look, observe, turn, return. I imagine another story, a poetic or dreamlike sequel. I play with oppositions, contrasts, complementarities of shapes, materials, sensations and feelings. Emotion arises from the highlighting of a new dynamic universe filled with meaning and sensitivity.
Fascinated by the material so fine, so light and yet so hard and resistant, I try improbable games. Games of shadows, lights, transparencies, opacities, reflections make the complexity of the relationship between crystal and wood. The two elements respond to each other, enhance each other.
Who values the other the most ? What is the most fascinating ?
Wood or crystal ?

Fascinating materials if there is one, with multiple possibilities, to which I devote all my time, my tests, my desires, my creations, in order to continue my work and my artistic expression in my sculptures.

I model, sculpt, forge and weave this earth, sandstone, which I freely shape. The prints, the contrasts, the research of materials are like the texture of the skin. They mark the passage of time, incidents in life, happy or unhappy journeys ...

I have often put in volume intangible universes, feelings, facts of mind. Thus, the idiomatic expressions put in volume already expressed a number of facts ...

Brains in horns abundance or trees

of Knowledge made some visitors wince.

The chairs brought their share of positioning and seating.

The dream cocoon, for its part, this small setting in which to deposit, entrust or develop a dream has allowed the dream to take place. This personal place of freedom, refuge, escape offers a window open to an elsewhere.    window

A journey through the mind through the meanders of thought. The staging of my dream cocoons in castings or waterfalls is an invitation to travel.

Their trees as a house, their guardians as protectors and their boats for movement are like an imaginary extrapolation, even a whimsical bit, of this little concept.

Then, lately, the drops, pearls and tears have slowly imposed themselves. I can play with these shapes. Shaping a solid state of these usually liquid states to further express the intangible feelings in order to feel them through the touch of the gaze or see them with your fingertips ...

I like the material. My sculpture work combines the two elements. Coarse sandstone, quite raw, soggy modeled. A mud to which I add dyes, glass powders, sometimes porcelain. Formatting.

The gesture is measured, suspended. Do not intervene too much, avoid what is unnecessary !

The glass is cut, merged in a movement of layers. Precarious balance in the oven. Two, three firings to achieve the right movement. Contrasts, devitrified parts, transparent surfaces ...

Sometimes it's good ! Or I break and recoil ...

Roselyne Blanc-Bessière

"What matters in paintings, as in stained-glass windows, is not the physical phenomenon that is described, it is the emotion that it gives rise to and its action on the field specific to each one." (Pierre Soulages)

IMG_1777.JPG

I work with fused and enamelled glass with the primary concern of showing the possibilities of the material glass by using it in architecture for its transparency, or as a support, by playing on translucency through devitrification.

The work of the painter's gesture comes to light for me in this slow transformation of the material by the heat and the cooking times, a little as if the gesture was not enough for me and that the creation process escaped me for a moment.

As far as I'm concerned, I don't really want to know why and how. I chose or was chosen by this material. I know it's him and not another!

“The color remembers the water and the glass remembers the sand. Each element returns to the previous one and, like memory, accepts it without melting it. The stained-glass windows, the lamps, the paintings of Roselyne Blanc-Bessière can be said to be lyrical in that they really strike the eye, like a blade, a magnifying glass would come to do it, that the cry they express is without appeal, that their beauty is there by mistake. My journey first led me, after studying at the Beaux-Arts in Toulouse, Aix-en-Provence and training in the Art Cru workshops in Bordeaux, towards the animation of a workshop of expression in the visual arts in Tarbes for 15 years, before founding a family and going to live 14 years in the mountains, a strong place where I was able to nourish my creation and carry out numerous firing in the ceramic wood-fired oven that I had created.

Today, I have been living and working in Bagnères-de-Bigorre for two years where I created the Passage'Ateliers. In this place is my workshop where I develop the creation of contemporary ceramics and an art therapy workshop where I approach all plastic techniques from painting to sculpture, in an approach of free expression, listening to the sensitive and alive.

10 years ago, my encounter with fire opened the doors of ceramics to me.

Previously, I worked the earth for a long time in an immediate pleasure, by letting it dry, mixed with glue and paper, in sculpture or in painting, between figuration and abstraction. Since this meeting, simple shapes, squares, cylinders that I call totems have become the supports for a search for texture and material. This allowed me to combine the work of painting and sculpture.

Nourished by strong images of nature and more particularly of minerals, I explore an inner world. I link the infinitely small, this deep, intense, intimate feeling ... to the infinitely large, to this strong, mineral nature, to the universe, to the cosmos ... Whether in the Origin series, mono- high temperature wood firing, black and white, which speaks of the origin of being and blends into infinity ... or in the series Empreintes , smoky lands, sculpted with small elements of nature, spiky lands , tormented like the traces left by life ... today I return to my first loves with sculptures of red earth and mixed papers, painted with earthen slips and oxides, in rapid firing keeping these traces and symbols like a memory. The transformation by fire leaves much to chance and allows the sculpture to tell its own story. My creation is intimately linked to technical discoveries, experiences guide my artistic journey, so a real dialogue is established with earth and fire.

"Marie-Pierre Campistro was right to dare to venture on the path of creation and discover the magic of possibilities in the alliance of fire and earth. Her ceramic squares or totems, in natural colors, available in pieces unique or in series of 3 or 7 resonate with a serene eternity. His work on the material recalls Tapiès, the symbolism refers to the cycle of life, the gesture is precise, ancestral, the writing fluid. A work that releases an emotion charged with energy. "
